About Me

The Airport Road Stories

I can still vividly remember that cool and pleasant morning when the Leyland Taxi turned off Paya Lebar Road onto Airport Road. It was a sort of boulevard leading up to Singapore’s Paya Lebar Airport at that time. Although I was just a toddler, these memories remain so clear that I often recall them. It was my first flight after all and oh boy was I excited. Each step onto the tarmac and into the plane was filled with awe.

The interior of the plane had a distinct smell, accompanied by piped-in music. The friendly crew pampered me with endless orange juice and ham sandwiches. I thought to myself, “What is this world?” Everyone was smiling, warm, and welcoming. My mom turned to me and said, “This is the tourism and travel industry.” In that moment, I knew I wanted to be a part of this world. The rest, as they say, is history.

My journey began 45 years ago when I was about 4 years old. I had to travel regularly to visit my father, who was working overseas. That experience ignited my passion for planes, travel, and adventure. So, whenever the car would turn onto Airport Road, my excitement would soar, my heart would flutter, and I would beam from ear to ear. Even today, I often experience the same feelings. Does this sound familiar?

I’m certain we’ve all had our own ‘Airport Road’ moments. Thus, this blog aims to keep those moments alive and celebrate joyful travels. With more than two decades dedicated to the travel and tourism industry, I thought perhaps it’s about time to share my experiences, knowledge, and opinions with a broader audience of travellers.

We all love to travel, and it is indeed a wonderful privilege to be able to do so. The gift of travel takes us to see and experience the BIG BIG world filled with the good, the different, and the inspirational. Only when we travel, we can truly appreciate destinations, sights, sounds, cultures, and perspectives. It is often said that the best cross-cultural education is gained through travel, and I believe this to be true, as there are countless lessons that extend beyond the confines of any classroom. Thus, the purpose of these stories is to precisely convey that and offer insights on how to derive the most enjoyment from personal experiences. While this blog isn’t an official reference tool, I hope the stories will inspire you and enhance the value of your travels as you dream and plan your next holiday.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story, and I eagerly look forward to hearing your Airport Stories as well.
